Dr. Julian D. Perry received his medical training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (McGraw Hill Book Prize winner for best grades in his class). He performed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital (Shipman Award for best resident research paper). He received training in oculofacial plastic surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute (best fellow research paper). He received an additional fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University.
He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, four dozen book chapters and three textbooks. He serves as an Executive Editor of the American Journal of Ophthalmology and on the Editorial Boards of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery and Ocular Surgery News.
He has served the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as Program Chairman and Secretary of Meetings. He has served the American Academy of Ophthalmology as Subspecialty Day Chairman and currently serves as a section editor of the ONE Network, Chair of the Annual Program Oculoplastics Subcommittee, and a member of the Basic Science Review Course Committee. He also sits on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Ophthalmic Devices Panel. He is a member of the Orbit Society and a founding member of Cena Oculoplastica Internazionale.
His awards include the ASOPRS Marvin Quickert Thesis Award, the ASOPRS Lester Jones Surgical Anatomy Award, and the AAO Senior Achievement Award. He has received the Cole Eye Institute Resident Teaching Award three times and a Cleveland Clinic Innovator Award two times. He holds two U.S. and International patents.
He directs an ASOPRS Fellowship and precepts Cleveland Clinic ophthalmology, plastic surgery, and dermatology residents, as well as Summa Health System plastic surgery residents
